Johnson County Trails to Enjoy This Fall

It’s fall in Kansas City and it’s the perfect time to get out and explore over 455 miles of trails in Johnson County to hike, walk and bike. Fall is a great time to not only get in your daily exercise but also to enjoy the sights and sounds of fall. The leaves are beginning to turn, the temperatures are finally cooler and the humidity is long gone.

 

Gary L. Haller Trail

The Gary L. Haller Trail in Mill Creek Streamway Park is one of our favorite spots to enjoy. This 17 mile trail from the Kansas River to Olathe is a great place to get out and enjoy fall. There are eight trail access points if you are not up for a 17 mile hike on your Saturday. The trail has scenic views of Mill Creek, huge trees full of colorful leaves and wide open areas of prairie grass.

 

Kill Creek Streamway Park

Another great spot to walk or bike is the trails in Kill Creek Streamway Park. The trail is just under seven miles. There are two access points, one in Olathe and the other in DeSoto. The trail runs along Kill Creek and features tallgrass prairies and treed areas for viewing the colorful leaves of fall.

 

Coffee Creek Trail

And finally, this Saturday, October 14, you can enjoy the ribbon cutting of the Coffee Creek Trail, the most recent addition to the trail system in Johnson County. This three and one half mile trail runs from Heritage Park in Olathe east to 169th and Switzer Road. We have not had a chance to enjoy this one yet so you will have to get out there and let us know!

Enjoy a fall walk on one of the many trails that Johnson County has to offer. Get out there and enjoy the season. Before you know it will be winter and we will be looking for indoor ways to be physically active!
